1991/2003, four hundred beacons (light sources), electrical circuit and wooden base
Every ‘lighthouse’ (flickering light) corresponds to an actual lighthouse in the Aegean Sea, placed at its exact coordinates on a scale of 1:41.000. The intensity, duration and frequency of the light emitted by each of the ‘lighthouses’ mimic the behaviour of the actual lighthouse.
This work was originally conceived and designed in 1991 to be exhibited along with the work List of Lighthouses. Visibility in the Archipelago. North, South, East, West at Documenta IX, Kassel. It was to have been installed on a specially constructed ramp on the Fulda river, but this proved impossible for financial reasons.
The Aegina Academy launched the programme “Image/Reality/Light” on Aegina on May 9-18, 2003 with the work’s journey on board the APOSTOLOS P. ferry from the port of Piraeus to the port of Aegina on Friday 9 May, 2003.
