Autobiographical Realism

The “autobiographical realism” (1974-1985)

With the end of the dictatorship in 1974, a change in the artistic career of George Hadjimichalis took place. Maintaining the realistic formal characteristics of the previous years, George Hadjimichalis abandons photorealism and turns to the recording of his experiences, i.e. to a kind of figurative autobiographical documentation. The emphasis is now on the introspective, introspective depiction of complex personal psychological situations, where the erotic element often dominates the intimate space of the London or Athens studios. These works were presented in his first and second solo exhibitions at “Ora” in 1977 and 1981.
